PETER BOGDANOVICH: Do you have regrets?

ORSON WELLES: Millions. But, you know, I like people who are ready and willing to make fools of themselves – being, as I am, a full member of the fraternity. Still, there are lots of nice felines who just can’t.

PB: Felines?

OW: If spiritually you’re part of the cat family, you can’t bear to be laughed at. You have to pretend when you fall down that you really wanted to be down there just to see what’s under the sofa. The rest of us don’t at all mind being laughed at.

PB: Then you’re canine?

OW: I’m a comic, anyway, even if I don’t wag my tail very often.
